NIA To Take Over Probe Into 5 Oct Targeted Killings Of Civilians

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will take over the probe into the targeted killing of civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar on October 5 The probe agency will take over the cases of Makhan Lal Bindroo, a Kashmiri Pandit and Virendra Paswan, a non-Kashmiri street vendor.

Makhan Lal Bindroo was the owner of Srinagar’s most famous pharmacy and was shot dead at his shop. Virender, who used to sell bhelpuri, was also shot at point-blank and died on the spot Within minutes of the second killing, militants shot dead Mohammad Shafi Lone at Naidkhai in Bandipora district. Lone was president of the local taxi stand.

The Director-General of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Director-General of NIA will discuss the case in Srinagar. DG J&K Police will write to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today and has confirmed the decision to hand over the case to the NIA after MHA’s nod.
