Lieutenant Colonel Of Indian Army Has Created Guinness World Records Of “Fastest Cycle Journey Of Manali – Leh Highway”
Lieutenant Colonel Bharat Pannu of the Indian Army has created a Guinness World Records of “Fastest Cycle Journey of Manali – Leh Highway” in 35 Hours 32 Minutes and 22 Seconds to cover the arduous route of 472 km.
Lt Col Bharat Pannu has finished his Fastest cycle journey on 11 October 2020 but the Guinness Book has awarded him the “Fastest Cycle Journey of Manali – Leh Highway” after verification of his submitted data.
In order to attempt this record, Bharat had undergone a strict training regime, coupled with immaculate planning and great efforts from his support team. The total distance covered was 472 km with an elevation gain of 6,107 metres.
The 472-km road from Leh to Manali is considered a challenge even for motorists and truck drivers because of the altitude gain and mercurial weather.
Army officer Lt Col Bharat Pannu traversed the route — one of the highest motorable stretches in the world — in 35 hours and 25 minutes on bicycle.
To set a world speed record was his aim, and officials at Guinness Book had said he should finish within 40 hours.
He had a crew of eight people supporting him in two cars through the journey, and spent a total of only 90 minutes off the saddle, mostly for changing clothes as per the weather’s requirement. The diet was mostly liquid.
Atal Tunnel which was inaugurated a few days ago would have made his ride easier, but on the advice of Guinness Book officials he skirted it and instead climbed the Rohtang Pass.
