11 Officers of Indian Navy were awarded the prestigious “Wings Of Golds” by rear Admiral Puneet Chadha, flag officer Commanding Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry Naval area at passing out parade (POP) of the 95th Helicopter Conversion Course (HCC) at the Naval Air Station ,INS Rajali at Arakkonam today.
The trainee pilots are introduced to several nuances of helicopter flying. The officers undergo a challenging syllabus including navigation, night flying and operations over sea.
The pilots underwent rigorous flying and ground training for 20 weeks at the Indian Naval Air Squadron 561.
The end of the course, the trainees are adjudged for Best in Flying, Best in Ground Subjects and Best in Overall Order of Merit.
The newly qualified pilots will be appointed to various front-line operational units of the Indian Navy where they will take on various missions such as SAR, Reconnaissance and Surveillance and Anti-Piracy patrols.

The airfield was abandoned after the war and lay unused until the 1980s, when it was transferred to the Indian Navy who rehabilitated and commissioned the airfield as INS Rajali and was commissioned on 11 March 1992
