Radicalization, Terrorism Main Challenges, EAM Tells UN Secy Gen

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar highlighted the need to counter-terrorism and radicalization with UN secretary general(the action or process of causing someone to adopt radical positions on political or social issues.) as the priorities for the entire region during his interaction with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York on Tuesday. “We discussed the Covid challenge, underlining the importance of finding urgent and effective global vaccine solutions. Critical to ramp up the vaccine supply chain to ensure greater production and fairer distribution,” he tweeted

The two also exchanged views on climate action with Jaishankar underlining the need for greater resources in order to achieve larger ambitions. “Financing will determine our seriousness and credibility,” he said, drawing attention to one aspect of climate change that is sidestepped by the developed countries.

Besides highlighting India’s constructive role in the UNSC (The United Nations Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, charged with ensuring international peace and security, recommending the admission of new UN members to the General Assembly, and approving any changes to the UN Charter) the minister also conveyed that maritime security and technology for peacekeeping would be New Delhi’s priorities during its Presidency of the UN Security Council in August. They also deliberated on the regional challenges in India’s neighborhood and shared concerns about ensuring that the gains of the last two decades in Afghanistan are adequately protected.
