India gained independence in 1947 and just after few months Arab-Israel war broke out which resulted in the announcement of the independence of Israel in 1948 (Yom Ha’atzmaut )
India formally recognized the state of Israel on September 17 1950 after that the Jewish Agency established an immigration office in Bombay which later got converted into a consulate then into embassies when India-Israel established full bilateral diplomatic relations in 1992.

MILITARY TIES BETWEEN INDIA AND ISRAEL
Israel is India’s second-largest source of defense equipment after Russia. In 2016 India bought weapons from Israel worth $600 million.
In 1999 a war broke out between India and Pakistan what we commonly know as KARGIL WAR. In 1999 India was not that advanced and we didn’t even have our own navigation system at that time, these factors could have resulted in the defeat of India in 1999. When every country denied helping India including the US and didn’t give permission to access their navigational systems. then Israel came to rescue India despite pressure from western nations on Israel to not to help India against Pakistan. Israel ignored all these pressure tactics and immediately helped India by providing additional ammunition and Israel also provided laser-guided and GPS-guided bombs for our Mirage 2000 fighter jets that bombed tiger hill and shook Pakistani forces. Israel also helped India by giving access to its navigational and GPS services which is known as WAZE in Israel.
DO YOU KNOW: INDIA NOW HAVE IT’S OWN NAVIGATION SYSTEM KNOWN AS NAVIC WHICH WAS FIRST LAUNCHED IN 2013.
In 2017 in a rare move, India participated in massive war drills that were planned to be conducted in the southern part of Israel. India sent it’s C-130J Super Hercules along with Indian Garud Commandos for war drills which lasted for a week.

INTELLIGENCE SHARING BETWEEN INDIA AND ISRAEL
It is believed that in 1968 when RAW was founded Former PM Indira Gandhi advised the RAW chief to create close links with MOSSAD. RAW and MOSSAD relations were cultivated to create a counter for PAKISTAN-CHINA-NORTH KOREA intelligence sharing relations. In 2003 it was revealed that RAW-MOSSAD has clandestine relations.
In 2015 just after the Paris attacks, PM MODI was scheduled to go to turkey for the G20 summit. It was believed that PM Modi could be the next target of the militants. Then MI5 and MOSSAD provided additional security and shared intelligence inputs with SPG, RAW, and IB.
In 2019 after a suicide bomber attack on a CRPF convoy in which 40 Indian troops were attained Veergati. Israel reiterated its unconditional support to the Indian army. Israel also shared intelligence to help India respond (BALAKOT AIRSTRIKE).
TRADE TIES BETWEEN INDIA AND ISRAEL
Bilateral trade with Israel stood at 4.52 billion dollars in 2014. India is Israel’s 3rd largest Asian and 10th largest trade partner and import source. Whereas Israel exported items worth 2.2 Billion Dollars to India which stood at the 7th largest export source.
PM Modi was the first Indian prime minister to visit Israel. During his historic visit to Israel India and Israel signed 9 MOU’s and agreements to boost trade ties between both the nations.

HOW ISRAEL IS HELPING INDIA AGAINST CHINA IN LADAKH STAND-OFF
In July Israeli Minister of defense during his telephonic talks with Rajnath Singh assured Israel’s full support to India in this standoff. There are some reports in media that Israel helped India by sending its SPYDER air defense system to counter China in Ladakh.
Amid heightened tensions with China. Israel also agreed to provide India with additional SPICE-2000 BOMBS, LIGHTWEIGHT MACHINE GUNS, BARAK 8 AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM HARPOON SUICIDE DRONES LOITERING MUNITION DRONES, and PHALCON AWACS for 2billion USD.
DO YOU KNOW: Israel refused to sell PHALCON AWACS to China despite repeated requests from CHINA.

FUTURE OF INDIA-ISRAEL RELATIONS
India and Israel have a lot in common these two countries are also termed as sister democracy/nations. India and Israel both are recognized as leading industrial powers in their respective regions. close strategic and military co-operation between India and Israel will only result in a warmer and close relationship in the future.
