An encounter has started at the Choor ki Gali Sedaw area of Hurpora in Shopian district, police said on Saturday. The Police and the Indian Army are carrying out the operation.
Earlier today, Police and Army also carried out an encounter at a forest in the Peer Ki Gali area of the Shopian district.
Last week, one security personnel had lost his life when a cordon and search operation was launched in Shopian and the terrorists started firing indiscriminately on the search party. Two terrorists were also eliminated in the operation.
Meanwhile, three terrorists involved in the attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anwar Khan’s residence, in which one policeman died, were gunned down by the security forces in Pulwama this Friday.
Chhattisgarh: Five security personnel killed in encounter with Naxals
Five security personnel were killed and a few others injured on Saturday in an encounter with Naxals at a forest in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a top police officer said.
According to the police, some Maoists are also suspected to have been killed during the exchange of fire.
The gunbattle broke out in Tarrem area when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Chhattisgarh Director General of Police DM Awasthi told.
The personnel belonging to the CRPF’s elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the operation, he said.
“As per the preliminary information, five jawans were killed and a few others were injured in the gunfight,” Awasthi said, adding that further details are awaited.
