Two cadres of proscribedย National Liberation Frontย ofย Tripuraย (NLFT) surrendered before the police in the Dharmanagar area of Northย Tripuraย district, the police informed on Thursday. According to the police, the cadres have been identified as Joseph Jamatia and Uttam Kishore Jamatia.
“Theย NLFTย cadres have deposited three factory-made pistols, magazines, and ammunition to the police,” L Darlong, DIG,ย Tripuraย Police said. “The surrender is a big success for theย Tripuraย police and a setback forย NLFTย outfit,” Darlong said.
They surrendered in the presence ofย Superintendent of Policeย (SP) Northย Tripuraย district, Bhanupada Chakraborty who played an important role in convincing them to come back to normal life. Theย NLFTย cadres were trained in Bangladesh and were living in Nagaland. Speaking to ANI, DIG Darlong said “both were important members of theย NLFTย and Joseph Jamatia who is a member of the umati group was the key person who maintained coordination between theย NLFTย andย NSCNย (IM) militant group.”Recently with inputs of theย Tripuraย police, theย Assam Riflesย had arrested top leaders of theย NLFTย fromย Mizoramย and recovered large quantities of arms and ammunition.
