138 Terrorists Killed By Security Forces In J&K This Year

Amid a spike in the attacks on civilians, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is set to send additional 5500 troops to Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a report in the Times of India, 138 terrorists have been killed by the security forces in J&K this year, even as 55 have been arrested in wake of the civilian killings. The security agencies have held close to 700 overground workers in the Valley since the beginning of the year.

According to reports, the deployment is a part of the earlier move under which 25 companies of CRPF have already been deployed since last month.

“Considering recent civilian killings in Jammu and Kashmir, five additional CRPF teams are being sent to the Union Territory. These companies will be deployed there within a week. The force earlier had sent 25 companies in J&K,” an official told news agency ANI.

Two Civilians Killed This Week

Last month, terrorists killed a street food vendor, a chemist, and two teachers in a series of attacks against civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. On Monday, terrorists killed salesman Ibrahim Khan of Bandipore district at Srinagar. On Sunday, another civilian – Tawseef Ahmad Wani was killed in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area.

The security forces have intensified checking in Jammu and Kashmir and the deployed personnel are checking 15,000 people, including travelers, in about 8000 vehicles on a daily basis. The Lashkar e Taiba (LeT) and United Liberations Front (ULF) have claimed responsibility for the attacks against civilians in the Valley. Recently, the ULF had released a statement asking all non-locals to leave the Kashmir Valley or ‘get ready for what they deserve’.
