Govt Approved Production Of Over 5 Lakhs AK203 Rifles In Amethi, UP

Ahead of Russian President Putin’s visit to India on 6th Dec, Govt has approved a plan for the production of over 05 lakhs AK203 rifles at the Korba plant of Amethi in UP in partnership with Russia.

AK203 project will be implemented by special Joint Venture, Indo Russian Rifles Private Ltd (IRRPL) created with erstwhile OFB [now Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited and Munitions India Limited] of India and Rosoboronexport and concern Kalashnikov of Russia.

AK203 Assault Rifles

AK 203, which is a derivative of the AK47, will replace the INSAS rifle as the standard issue for Indian Army personnel.

“The project will provide business opportunities to various MSMEs and other defence industries for supply of raw material and components, which will lead to the generation of new employment opportunities. The project marks a significant stride towards making UP a key contributor in the ascendant defence manufacturing prowess of India,” said a senior defence official.

AK-203 assault rifles, with an effective range of 300 meters, are lightweight, robust and easy to use modern assault rifles with proven technology that will enhance the combat potential of soldiers to adequately meet present and envisaged operational challenges.
