India, US Navies Participates In Passage Excercise In Eastern IOR Indian Navy warship INS Shivalik with integral helicopter and Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft P8l on Sunday participated in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with US Navy’s USS Theodore Rosevelt Carrier Strike Group in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region.

In a First, enhancing jointmanship, Indian Air Force fighters were also included in the exercise affording IAF and opportunity to practice Air interception/ Air defence with US Navy close to Indian Coast,” Indian navy said.

Theย Boeing P-8 Poseidonย (formerlyย Multimission Maritime Aircraft) is an Americanย maritime patrol aircraftย developed and produced byย Boeing Defense, Space & Security, modified from theย 737-800ERX. It was developed for theย United States Navyย (USN).

The P-8 operates in anti-submarine warfareย (ASW),ย anti-surface warfareย (ASUW), andย shipping interdictionย roles. It is armed withย torpedoes,ย Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and other weapons, can drop and monitorย sonobuoys, and can operate in conjunction with other assets, including theย Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Tritonย maritime surveillanceย unmanned aerial vehicleย (UAV).

The P-8 is operated by the United States Navy, theย Indian Navy, theย Royal Australian Air Forceย (RAAF), and the UK’sย Royal Air Forceย (RAF). It has also been ordered by theย Royal Norwegian Air Forceย (RNoAF), theย Royal New Zealand Air Forceย (RNZAF), and theย Republic of Korea Navyย (ROKN).
