Indian Airlines IC-814 Hijacker Zahoor Mistry Killed In Karachi

One of the five terrorists who hijacked IC-814 in 1999, Zahoor Mistry alias Zahid Akhund, was killed in Karachi city on March 1, News9 has learnt from multiple intelligence sources in Pakistan.

Mistry was living in Karachi under the new identity of Zahid Akhund for the last several years. Mistry was the owner of Crescent Furniture which was inside Akhtar Colony in Karachi.

Sources in intelligence also told News9 that top Jaish-e-Mohammad leadership, including Rauf Asgar, attended the funeral prayer for Akhund in Karachi. Asgar is the Operational Chief of JeM and brother of Jaish chief Masood Azhar.

IC-814 aircraft of Indian Airlines was hijacked by 5 hijackers from Nepal on December 24, 1999. The plane made a long arduous journey to Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai before making a strategic stop at Kandahar of Afghanistan which was under Taliban control.

The hostage crisis continued for a week after which New Delhi was forced to release dreaded Islamist terrorists Masood Azhar, Ahmed Omer Saeed Sheikh, and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar. One Indian national was killed by the hijackers while the other 170 passengers and crew survived.
