Security Threat on Air India Mumbai-New York Flight

An Air India flight traveling from Mumbai to New York was compelled to turn back mid-air due to a potential security threat detected onboard. The flight, identified as AI119, safely returned to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 10:25 am on March 10, 2025. The decision to return was made to ensure the safety and security of all passengers and crew members.

An Air India spokesperson provided details about the incident: “A potential security threat was identified during the flight of AI119, which was en route from Mumbai to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on March 10, 2025. Following standard safety protocols and procedures, the flight was redirected back to Mumbai. The aircraft landed safely at 10:25 am local time. The plane is currently undergoing mandatory inspections by security agencies, and Air India is fully cooperating with the authorities to address the situation.”

The airline has rescheduled the flight for 5:00 am on March 11, 2025. In the meantime, all 322 passengers, including 19 crew members onboard the Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, have been provided with hotel accommodations, meals, and other necessary assistance by Air India. The airline is ensuring that passengers are comfortable and informed while the situation is being resolved.

Security agencies are conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft to determine the nature of the potential threat.
