IAF Chief Takes Sortie In Indigenous Light Combat Helicopter

Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief RKS Bhadauria took a sortie in the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) in Bengaluru today. he sortie lasted for 45 minutes. 

On Thursday, Bhadauria had taken a sortie in newly-inducted Apache attack helicopter. He was on a two-day visit to the western part of the country. He also reviewed the operational preparedness of fighter squadrons in the sector.

“Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal, RKS Bhadauria undertook a two-day visit to the airbases under Western Air Command on November 17 and November 18. He interacted with the Air Warriors serving at these bases. During the visit, he flew a sortie with the Apache Squadron,” the IAF said in a tweet.

Two Light Combat Helicopters deployed in Leh: HAL

The LCH is planned to be inducted into the Indian defence forces in the near future. According to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the LCH was proposed to meet IAF’s requirement of a dedicated light helicopter for combat operations. 

On Thursday, HAL had said that two of the LCHs developed by the agency have been deployed in Leh at high altitudes in light of the prevailing situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

“It is the lightest attack helicopter in the world designed and developed by HAL to meet the specific and unique requirements of Indian Armed Forces reflecting the crucial role of HAL in Atma Nirbhar Bharat’,” HAL’s CMD R Madhavan.

Recently, Vice Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Harjit Singh Arora took part in a simulated high-altitude operation along with HAL test pilot, Wg Cdr (Retd), Subash P John which demonstrated the capability of the home-developed chopper.
